Baby Tattoos and Tattoo Portraits
Of course, no one is saying that one should put a tattoo on their baby. However,
having a tattoo of one's baby is a very popular choice these days. Tattooing, both in practice and in the sophistication of the devices
used to apply the artwork, has become advanced enough that the artists can make incredibly intricate designs
with very detailed and striking shading, incredibly precise lines and very realistic coloring.
While the older techniques may have been adequate to have Betty Boop tattooed on one's arm, the
techniques used today make the Mona Lisa an entirely viable choice.
Baby tattoos, tattoos of spouses or loved ones and in memory of tattoos require a
very skilled artist to apply. Remember that the artist will be tackling one of the more difficult of artistic
endeavors, the recreation of the human face, on a canvas of flesh.
This requires a steady hand, a very developed ability to work with the curves of
one's body and an ability to make a likeness which is nothing short of photorealistic. These tattoos tend to be the
ones that are among the most respected, even by those who are not particularly enamored of tattoo art.
While some professionals may have qualms about having tattoos in visible areas, having
at tattoo of a loved one in such an area is generally not a controversial choice. It's usually recognized as
an expression of love or, in the case that the tattoo is made in memory of someone who has passed away, it's
recognized as a heartfelt tribute and as a way to preserve the memory of the person for the rest of one's
life. Oftentimes, these tattoos start up a conversation about the subject of the portrait and provide a way to
share something about that person whether they be living or long since passed away.
Start by finding a very good picture of the person in question. Black and white is
preferable for this work. Oftentimes, individuals choose photographs taken at significant moments of the subject's
life such as their wedding, graduation from school or military training or other important times.
These pictures are oftentimes the most flattering and provide an excellent source
material from which the artist might work. Remember that a close-up of the face is preferable to a shot of the
entire body as the artist will need as much detail as possible from which to work.
Of course, babies and family members aren't the only choices people make
where portraits are concerned. Baby tattoos are among many chosen subjects.
Musicians are also a popular choice. As is the
case with the presidents who appear on currency, these musicians are most often passed on and represent some of the
more well-known and significant contributors to music, most often to rock music.
Whichever portrait is chosen, remember to make sure the source material is of the
very highest quality and to have the image drawn before it is tattooed on to make sure the artist captures the
subject effectively.
